Football, anyone?

Happy birthday to Steven Patrick Morrissey, who turns 49 today. Why not celebrate with other fans of the merry, melodious misanthrope by checking out a Smiths tribute band in your area today?

Yo Mamma

May 11th, 2008

This has to be the single greatest combination of motherhood and the William Tell Overture that I have ever seen. From a 2006 performance by Anita Renfroe, this video is dedicated to the Mothers who love The Contrarian.

You know what? My Mom really did say all of those things.

After five years of jumping on the blog bandwagon, today marks the day that The Contrarian officially enters retirement. I’ve just been overwhelmed with the responsibilities of responsibility, and now spend my daily free time in precious ten-minute increments with the meter running. Stopping to smell the roses would require an act of stopping, which has been extremely difficult task to accomplish.

The progress of my knowledge of popular culture has crawled to a near-halt sometime in the late 1990s and my daily “reading” of the news is now a quick scan of the Star-Ledger headlines over breakfast before I toss the whole thing in the trash.

There are a few posts that are still scheduled to appear here in the summer, so perhaps I’ll just start locking down the comment and trackback abilities on the remaining posts.
